The lakehouse is also just 15 minutes from Tunica casinos and 40 minutes from downtown Memphis — but you may want to stay where you are, engaged in a game or jigsaw puzzle with your housemates, or watching the stars sparkle on the lake.
The Homeplace
Byhalia, MS
10 guests • 3 bedrooms • 7 beds • 2 baths
Love a home with a good story? The Homeplace, located on 114 acres of secluded land in the Northwest Mississippi town of Byhalia, has a great one! It was built nearly 72 years ago by Billy and Fannie Mae Nichols, who married after Billy returned from World War II. Together, the sweethearts planned every detail of the home and made numerous additions over the years, living there until they both passed away in their 90s.
Now, through All Belong Co., a collective of boutique Airbnbs, their daughter, Nell, and her husband, Jeff, are sharing the couple’s “labor of love” with guests seeking a peaceful respite close enough to the city but far enough away.
Stepping inside the great room, you can’t help but be wowed by the cathedral ceiling, fragrant cedar paneling, and stone fireplace. Fun fact: The fireplace was built by the same stonemason who built Graceland’s famed wall (You can’t light it any longer, but you can admire it!). The room has ample gathering spaces, plus a piano and a guitar for late-night singalongs. There are delightful surprises everywhere — a dutch door, a smart TV housed inside an antique pie safe, two built-in alcoves with twin beds, a sliding cedar barn door milled on the property, and more.
Walls are decorated with memorabilia, antique maps, signs, and artwork, adding to the home’s remarkable history. Once you’ve explored the inside, take a walk around the surrounding acreage, where you’ll discover grazing deer, a vintage dinner bell, a cornhole set, and more fun finds. The Homeplace is a fantastic spot for making memories of your own — and it’s just 40 minutes from all Memphis has to offer.
Yum Yum Farmhouse
Somerville, TN
6 guests • 3 bedrooms • 3 beds • 2 baths
Southern hospitality awaits at the newly restored and renovated Yum Yum Farmhouse, located just five miles off I-40 and 50 miles outside Memphis. Nestled against a serene backdrop of rolling pastures, woods, and farmland, the spacious home oozes with character and enchanting allure that makes you feel like you stepped into a storybook. Cook in style in the gourmet kitchen, which features quartz countertops, new appliances, a well-stocked coffee bar, and an island with space for hanging out and enjoying meals.
Sink into the extra deep down-filled couch in the den for an afternoon nap or to binge-watch your favorite shows. The wall of windows in the room overlooks the backyard, where you’re likely to spot deer, wild turkeys, or other local wildlife. The living room is equally inviting with its vaulted ceiling, snug sofa and chairs, and newly installed wood-burning stove insert in the fireplace — great for relaxing, reading, or puzzling on chilly nights.
Bedrooms beckon with brand-new memory foam mattresses, cozy sheets and blankets, and charming nooks for curling up to read. Pamper yourself with a long soak in the clawfoot tub in the master bathroom and admire the vintage-inspired vanity in the guest bathroom. On cool, clear nights, gather with your travel buddies around the built-in fire pit (encircled with Adirondack chairs) to stargaze!
Farm Charm
Arlington, TN
8 guests • 2 bedrooms • 3 beds • 2 baths
Situated in the middle of 11 acres of rural farmland in the Memphis suburb of Arlington, Farm Charm is an off-the-beaten-path getaway for those looking to experience idyllic country life close to a city. True to its name, the restored farmhouse has charming decor with sliding barn doors, handmade furnishings, and nostalgic details.
“We put a lot of heart and soul into it,” says Mitch, one of the hosts. Farm Charm was the birthplace of his wife, Norris Ann, and the couple used trees from the property to mill their wood for the remodel. Whatever the reason for your visit, you’ll have all the necessities for a solid stay, from sizable closets and brand-new kitchen appliances to an electric fireplace and an office space with a desk, wireless charging stand, and high-speed internet. Plus, there’s a carport and horse stalls with open pastures available for equestrian guests to rent.
Catch the sunrise with a cup of joe on the screened-in porch, enjoy complimentary games and movie snacks in the entertainment room, or grill out for an alfresco meal under the backyard pavilion. And get outside and explore! Visit with the horses on the property, fish in the pond, roast s’mores over the fire pit, tour the sawmill operations on-site, or visit the Delta Blues Winery down the road. Best of all, you can reach most Memphis attractions within a half-hour (that is, if you can tear yourself away from this Hallmark movie-like setting).
The B.O.B. House
Lakeland, TN
2 guests • 1 bedroom • 2 beds • 1 bath
If you’re looking for a tiny house for a quick trip to Memphis (or even just a place to unwind), check out The B.O.B. House. A hidden gem in the Memphis suburb of Lakeland, the adorable tiny house is cute, cozy, and perfect for unplugging. Fashioned from an old horse barn, The B.O.B. House sits poolside on the hosts’ property and has the sweetest story.
“The B.O.B. House stands for the ‘Barn Out Back,’ but it is dedicated to my late father, Bob,” host Colleen explains in the listing. “He loved to work with wood and had lots of lumber left at his home after he passed. We incorporated all of his wood to create this unique and rustic cabin.” The pet-friendly abode includes all the essentials: a custom-made queen-size bed, a seating area with a TV, a kitchenette stocked with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig, and a shower with excellent water pressure (so say its guests!).
Guests also get pool privileges — and if you’re lucky, Colleen might whip up one of her famous Bloody Marys for you to sip! The B.O.B. House is a quick 25-minute drive to downtown Memphis. But if you’d rather hunker down there, we wouldn’t blame you a bit. Kick back in the front porch rockers, lounge by the pool, or chat with the hosts. As one guest says, the B.O.B. House “is my favorite home away from home!”
Enjoy!
