Spring is finally upon us, and the warmest months are still to come. From quick and painless hair removal to luxurious exfoliation, get your skin summer-ready with these four talked-about treatments available at Ona Skincare. Melissa Rhodes, founder of Ona Skincare and a Certified Nurse Practitioner, walks us through all the options and how to tell if you’re a good candidate for treatment!
Lutronic Clarity II
Combining dual wavelengths of laser technology, Lutronic Clarity II is the fastest hair removal device on the market. A painless and convenient option, Melissa says Ona Skincare introduced this device as a way to give patients their time back. “Before, laser hair removal treatment could last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half if we were doing full legs,” she explains. “We can do the same thing in under 30 minutes now.”
Treatment sessions themselves are relatively painless and don’t require anesthetic. Instead, the device uses cryogenic cooling to blow puffs of cold air to remove hair from your face and body. “Because of the specific wavelengths that this device uses, it can target finer or more vellus hairs, where previously that was really difficult to do with laser hair removal,” adds Melissa.
Melissa adds that most patients will require multiple treatments — especially because hair grows in cycles. She typically recommends that patients undergo a series of six treatments. For hair removal on the face, treatments should occur every four weeks; for the body, Melissa suggests treatments every six to eight weeks. She adds that you’ll likely see a 20% reduction in hair after each session.
DiamondGlow Deluxe Facial
To achieve glowing, healthy summer skin, Melissa also recommends a DiamondGlow Deluxe facial. Using the tip of a diamond to exfoliate the skin, this facial treatment infuses specialized serums into the face, promotes lymphatic drainage, and stimulates collagen production.
When it comes to the treatment, Melissa says it’s painless and quick. If you’re in a rush, the treatment can be done in about 30 minutes. However, if you want a more in-depth treatment, Melissa recommends a 60-minute session with plenty of time for relaxation and resurfacing.
Treatments can be done once or in multiple sessions, depending on what issues you’re trying to address. If you’re combating acne or pigmentation, treatments can be done as close together as two weeks. For anti-aging or a summer skin refresh, one treatment should do the trick. “You should see immediate results regarding clarity of skin, brightness, texture, and pore size,” Melissa tells us. “For pigmentation, that can sometimes take a series of treatments, but you’ll see brightening with each treatment you do.”
Whether you have acne, fine lines, or wrinkles, Melissa says anyone and everyone can benefit from DiamondGlow Deluxe. “It’s going to exfoliate and keep your skin looking younger,” she explains. “When we’re younger, our skin turns over about every 28 days with new skin cells; as we age, that slows down. If you’re doing this treatment once a month to help cellular turnover, it’s going to trick your skin into thinking it’s younger, so it’s going to act younger, too.”
CoolSculpting Elite
If you have pockets of fat that you can’t seem to get rid of, or even if you’re already at your ideal body weight, CoolSculpting Elite might be the right treatment for you. “The device freezes fat cells, crystallizes them, and kills them off permanently,” explains Melissa. “With each session, you get about a 25% reduction in fat cells.”
While you may have previously heard about CoolSculpting, CoolSculpting Elite is a more advanced version that offers additional features and benefits. In addition to greater comfort during treatment, the new technology also has a cooling area that is 18% larger than before. It contains dual applicators, so two areas can be treated simultaneously.
Like the other treatments on this list, CoolSculpting Elite does not require downtime. In fact, Melissa says you can return to your regular routine almost immediately after treatments. She notes, however, that you might experience a small amount of numbness or tenderness after treatment. “You’ll start to see results after about 30 days, but it will take 90 days to see the full effect,” she adds.
trueSculpt Flex
Another standout body sculpting treatment, truSculpt Flex can strengthen, tone, and firm your muscles — just in time for pool season. Promoting muscle contractions, Melissa says a 45-minute truSculpt Flex session is the equivalent of doing 20,000 sit-ups. “You’ll build about 30% more muscle mass over the course of six treatments versus what you started with,” she adds. “This is a great option for people who can’t work out for whatever reason.”
The truSculpt Flex device uses Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS) technology to replicate crunching, squatting, and twisting movements in the muscles. This allows the device to target small muscle groups by placing 16 applicators on areas around the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. Treatments are done in six sessions; patients typically undergo two sessions a week for three weeks.
Maintenance and upkeep will depend on individual patients and their needs. Melissa says some people will come in for additional sessions once a month or once a quarter, depending on how often they exercise. “I would say if you go to the gym three times a week or more, you can really maintain your results and maybe do a quarterly session,” she adds.
