In a world of restaurants with 400 menu items and 1,000 different wine selections, FIVE keeps it simple. With five dinner selections, five brunch selections, five wines, and five signature cocktails, there’s no need to offer more when what’s being served up keeps locals coming back to this hip diner on a weekly basis.

One of these must-try, irresistible menu items is the Breakfast Cheeseburger. Served at FIVE’s Jazz Brunch, this indulgent weekend burger features a double patty, a fried egg, and American cheese and is topped with a smoky, sweet bacon relish.

When you have a chef who has received a James Beard Foundation Award, been inducted into Esquire magazine’s Restaurant Hall of Fame, and has lived and cooked in the South of France, you better believe you will find one of the best burgers in town. Chef Frank Stitt combines his fondness for Southern ingredients with his adoration of French cuisine to deliver comforting French fare in a charming bistro.

The Hamburger Fonfon is an absolute must-try with its French comté cheese, grilled onions, and pickles, providing the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and tangy.

If there were ever a perfect pair, it would have to be burgers and beer. Back Forty Beer Co. offers as many as 25 beers on tap to complement its menu of gourmet pub food, including a hearty cheeseburger you won’t want to miss.

Jack Brown’s likes to keep things interesting with a burger special each day, including options like a burger topped with house-made spinach-artichoke dip, one with sweet heat Asian slaw, and even one with glazed doughnuts for buns.

We have no doubt you’ll become a regular at Jack Brown’s in order to try each of these creative buns, but our must-try burger at this festive joint is the Greg Brady. Consider this the ultimate comfort food—a burger topped with house-made Mac N’ Cheese and Martin’s BBQ potato chips.

The Standard

With a classic diner feel, The Standard serves up hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and fries in a fun and lively food hall atmosphere. A lengthy list of add-ons, including fried egg, pimento cheese, pickled jalapeños, and more, offers a chance for you to get as creative as you’d like. This friendly spot also features a Black Bean Veggie Burger for our vegetarian friends.

For your first visit, we recommend starting with the Double Bacon Cheeseburger, topped with American cheese, “Standard Sauce,” lettuce, tomato, and pickles — an impressive classic with just the right fixings.

Saw’s Juke Joint

Founded by North Carolina-born Mike Wilson, Saw’s has a long history of smoking meat and crafting sauces. The menu features Carolina-style smoked pulled pork, chicken, and ribs, served with one of three styles of sauce. Sides include baked potatoes, beans, deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, and banana pudding.

Saw’s also happens to have one of the best burgers in Birmingham, unsurprisingly called the Carolina Burger. This cheeseburger is topped with mustard, onions, pickles, chili, and slaw for ultimate Southern comfort.

MELT

While the menu offers an enormous variety of ways to enjoy melted cheese, MELT’s Cheeseburger is an absolute must-try. It features two Angus beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, and “Matilda” sauce on thick buttery Texas toast.
